Struggling With Profitability

On my current game. see attached, I found that once the Great Depression hit I haven't been able to maintain new profitability. During the first two to three years of the Depression I was able to maintain some net cash flow, mainly due to OEM part sales, but now even that has mostly dried up. I have over 7 Billion banked so I'm able to sit on that fairly comfortably. However, I'm unsure if I'm just supposed to sit on my low earnings and declining market share and try to ride this out to 46' where I hope I'm able to return to some level of stability. Or am I making some major mistakes which is causing me to be in this current position?

Keep getting this error despite following the instructions on uninstalling and reinstalling the vc++2013 and 2017 redist files which I downloaded from the links provided along with the Open AL file and installed via run as administrator. But no luck. Haven't played in a while and this is a fresh install on a new computer. I'll send the log files

I'm a bit crazy and have some unfinished games from version 1.21 that I really want to still play. Unfortunately steam auto-updated me to 1.22 when 1.24 was released. Is there any way I can revert to/get a copy of 1.21 to finish my games?

What happened to the color black?

Help ! Unable to launch game after playing for 5 months. No anti-virus program or other computer changes. Have reloaded multiple times including several total reboot/reload of program. Tried everything to no avail.! Might have to totally delete/reload from factory. Already deleted all saved games ( No help.), and delete/reload from Steam multiple times ( No Good.). Still cannot start game. Click on start, but game fails to boot up. Right after clicking on start, it goes back to Start screen. Anybody got answers?

Hey Eric,

I have seen a couple of changes that came along with v. 1.23 (testing built). I have a couple of short questions and some feedback.

The most obvious change is the frame around the mothly reports. With my resolution (1920x1080) it is way too small to see the bottom of a page. You have to scroll down - and I scroll down a lot in this game. This not only applies to the report, but also to "Gear City Monthly" and "Gear City news". How can I change the size of these windows?
How can I change the fonts in the reports? I use the largest avaliable size (>> settings) and it is still not optimal. The fonts lacks contrast and simplicity. I do understand that you needed to pick a licence-free font.
My last question is not related to this version of the game but a more general one: I am always interested in what the competition does. Are there any more information avaliable besides what I can see in the yearly company overview, the stocks and on the world map (world map >> maps >> competition)? Maybe an additional page in the reports, which sums up some information about the competition, would be an idea?! Having one page with the most basic figures of each competitor would be such a great addition to the game (e.g. sales figures, profit/loss , number of branches, debt, market share, headquater, logo). Almost all of these information already exist.

A feedback on the current version: I experienced some crashes on the latest versions, especially when opening the world map (maybe due to the fact that I am playing AI 300). On the newest version (1.23 (tb)) this only happened once. Which is good. The frame around the reports is a step back, though, imo.

Hello, when I opened Steam today it said that I had to install Gearcity again, and basically I don't understand why; after installing the game again about three times I can't create a new game because it crashes to desktop. What can I do?

I've read somewhere on this forum a similar question I'm about to ask, but I can't for the life of me find the original thread. Feel free to delete this if I'm duplicating what's already been mentioned:

My company name is Emporium and I merged with a company called Brenelor (or something like that). The new company became known as Emporium Brenelor. Now when I build cars I can use the Brenelor name seperately or the Emporium Brenelor name. Question 1: Why can't I also use my original Emporium (without Brenelor) name for new vehicle designs?

Question 2: I've been using the Brenelor name for my cheap, ugly, mass produced cars and the Emporium Brenelor name for my high quality cars, yet after many years, the Brenelor name has improved and has superior prestige and image qualities to my Emporium Brenelor name. Question 2: Why would that be?

Use In-game Companies Logo?

Hi there,

Could you please let me know if there is a way to use the companies logos (from the companies we bought) as new logo for our own comp? When I try to restructure, I only have the few ones available at start...

Also, maybe that would be great to be able to start the game using any of the In-Game companies. Not sure this will be implemented though...

Maybe I should also have posted this in Suggestions, not sure.

Why do some of my marque have a negative value when I go to sell them in the holdings menu? For example: TuTu has a value of $-1.8 Billion. Does that mean I would owe that money to the buyer if I went through with the deal? Even after I have paid off their bonds prematurely? Do those negative values affect my value as a company even though I am 100% private?

I use the IPO menu to find out my value as a company it was at $587 billion, I don't know how else to get a metric of that. I spent about $1.2 trillion to buy Mazudah, and they had about $380 billion in debt. After
I purchased them, discontinued the brand, paid off the bonds and restarted it, my value was only $30 billion. Is it a bad decision to buy failing companies and gut them for their factories?

What are outstanding shares, why do they typically appear when I create a wholly owned subsidiary?

Hey Eric,

racing in 1.20 works great yet somehow the GearCity Cup (Engines, 10000cc) is somewhat strange because companies are joining with V-10's, Flat-10's and even W12's with around 160HP in late 1903 and early 1904 and all i can do is V-8 for now which makes it kinda tough to be competetive.

Is this intended?

Hi I'm fairly new to this game and while it seems to have tremendous depth I feel as though i've just scratched the surface. Started my first company (after playing a few years with the demo then realizing it was well worth the sale price on steam.) in Portland and have successfully expanded to Seattle and San Francisco.

Here's the problem - I want to open a branch in Vancouver (which I've done) and despite it having a reasonably good per capita and some marketing expenses I am getting no sales. What gives? is there some restriction on international distribution up to a certain year or something? From what I can tell there is no visible sign of a restriction, I'm just not getting any sales in Canada. Is there some extra step I have to go through or what? This is in version 1.19.

How can I access all the contracts from the list?

Hello,

I used the search function ("contracts") but that wasn't successful unfortunately.

Every now and then there's a message about new contracts. As far as I observed I am able to apply for the first part of the list, the one that says something like we can apply (obviously...).

1) However, there is a second part of that list and I am not allowed to apply for those contracts. Why is that and how can I change it?

2) Also, is there a way to see/know the absolute financial limits the firms are willing to pay? Something like 300% max or so?

3) Must one pay shipping costs for contract produced products?

4) Engine contracts: I don't even try for contracts with 1-5 units per month as I can't see to make a profit out of that with factory running costs etc. Am I missing something?

I have been playing the game for a couple of weeks now after downloading from STEAM. Fun game.

I just got an update. Cannot continue my saved game after the update. Oh well, started again.

Designed chassis, engine, and gears. 8 months later, tried to design a vehicle.

There is no longer a tire or wheel option, and the game crashes when I bring up vehicle accessories.

Windows 10, NVidia 2GB Graphics card 8GB RAM.
