New Cities: Post here!

Small mistake on Lyons, France...

It actually spells LYON!

As far as I know, Lyon and Lyons spelling is interchangeable. With Lyons being the historical spelling. (And the spelling on the maps I used to pin point the cities!)

As far as I know, well, it has never been called Lyons...

Lyon being the actual "transformation" of the original name of the city during Roman Empire: Lugdunum. Lugdunum became Lyduum, and then Lyuum.

Later, during the 13th century, the "um" suffix became "on" in french cities. That is, the city name became Lyon. Also, in 1320, the Lion (animal) became the official emblem of the city, which was some kind related to the Forez counts and the use of a strong war symbol defending, inherited from the Roman Empire strength of the city.

That is, André Pelletier, a french historian explains it very well in its book "Histoire de Lyon: de la capitale des gaules à la métropole européenne" (Eng: History of Lyon: from the Gauls capital to the european metropole)

But still, it is no big deal at all, just so you know ;-)
In my opinion, it is only a "bad" anglicism of the name

It'll be changed whenever I get around to adding/taking away cities. Smile

Yay! Cool, sorry for giving you that kind of "unnecessary" stuff to work on...

I haven't tried the beta yet so I am not sure if it has been added, but a while ago I mentioned Adelaide, South Australia was missing even though smaller less important cities were included. I was told to make the suggestion during Beta so here I am. Smile

Adelaide, South Australia has over 1 million in population (~1.1M) and is the city that Holden (GM Australia) vehicles are manufactured for local and Export (modern Pontiac GTO, Pontiac G8, upcoming Chevrolet SS, Vauxhall VXR8 etc) There was a Mitsubishi factory here a few years ago also but has since packed up (Also made some exports). Adelaide also used to feature the Adelaide Gran Prix until 1994.
Adelaide is also pretty central in southern end of Australia so it wont interfer with other cities.

Yes Yes, I'll be adding Adelaide, it's not in yet though.

Some of the really minor cities are there just to fill out the map and give some weird/odd places to start a company.

Good to hear. I was about to suggest Adelaide!

In addition to what VIPERGTSR01 said. The Mitsubishi plant he mentioned was actually opened by Chrysler in 1964. This mean that car manufacturing in Australia actually pre-dates the founding of Mitsubishi that were not founded until 1970!

Also, the company that became Holden was founded in Adelaide in 1852. Though they didn't start producing cars until 1919 (Also in Adelaide).

Finalization of cities will be at the end of this month. If you have any more requested cities please post here!
Otherwise you will have to mod them in when I release the mod tools...

Have you thought about a zoom feature to fix the "crowding" issue of cities?

No LOD on the textures, but I think I still have debug keys in the game allow you to zoom (Q,Z) if you want to play with it.

Well you had mentioned earlier in the thread that you wanted to add cities but they would be too crowded. Just looking for a solution to that.

Thanks for the suggestion, but as I said the world map lacks LOD, so it wouldn't work. I tried it before! Smile

AeroMogul will offer a world map with full LOD, which if I ever get around to making a GC2 (a few years from now) we can just port it over!

But for the time being, I think the world map is going to stay a fixed height.

Ambition is always a good sign when getting behind a game production company. Good to hear.

What about cardiff? I know it's a small city in a small country but no game ever has any places in wales! Being welsh it would be amazing to start company in ky own city! Also it's close to london and birmingham !

I feel your pain, none of the cities I've ever lived in is in the game. The problem with Cardiff is that it is too close to London, the dots would interfere with each other.

Not just Holden but pretty much every car brand that's ever made cars here.
I think Ford and VW are the only ones that haven't had factories in Adelaide and I'm not even sure about that!

If you go a couple of pages back I suggested Adelaide earlier and from memory I gave a good rundown of who and when for some of the major brands that have produced cars there, though I don't think I came close to covering everyone.

Hello!

I found a few things regarding cities:

It seems, that Shanghai is not existing. I think it should be there, since it is THE metropolis in China today.

Brasilia has only one inhabitant until the 1940s. I don't know if he will be able to reproduce himself alone in the future Smile

There are some issues with cities and countries around WW2. Vienna for example is not participating in the war, as some other east european cities don't. But that is not correct. Also after WWII in Asia some cities (Shenyang, Changchung and Korea) still belong to Japan. This seems incorrect, also.

Brussels has about 3700 USD (or Gear city Dollars) after WWII, while other nations in the area are max around 1000.

I am not sure if the capital of Israel was Amman. On the map it is not, but if I remember well this was in the news at the beginning of the turn (?).

I am still in my first real game and it is great. I have about 10-15 brand in 1946 and made until now maybe 200-300 different models...

Game is great!

Greetings,

Kalle

Ningbo, it's practically the same city. If memory serves me, more manufacturing in Ningbo

Brasilia wasn't built until 1960. It will probably be removed from the game when I redo the maps.

This is not the thread for bugs, but I will make a note of it. However make a note, posting bugs in the correct forums makes me fix them faster. It will get lost on here until I redo all the maps.

That being said, Korea was occupied until the division of Korea in 1948.

If memory serves me, it was a part of the British Mandate after the fall of the ottomons until Jordan was granted indepencence after WW2. As such the city should be Ottomon-> British Mandate-> Jordan. If it has the Israeli flag, let me know and I'll fix it.

I believe the capital of Israel is Jerusalem, although to avoid politics, we keep this city out of the game and use Israel's second biggest city, Tel Aviv.

Glad you're enjoying it! Smile
