GearCity Executive Secretary - A Report Utility for GearCity

It would be fantastic if it could also add the overall sales per year, per model/trim. I tend to track them on excel directly from the game but then sometimes (rarely) the filesave breaks and from that point on I might have to either go to a previous save or import them from the db directly, which requires saving the data every now and then...

Glad you are making good use of it!

Isn't that functionality available in-game in the Hall of Fame? That's where I tend to go to see how my models sold. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the additional functionality that you are describing beyond that.

I have downloaded both the Liberica 8 Full JDK and JRE, among various other Java packs, and those two at least get the program to open. But when I open a save file, it is completely empty.

The March 2024 update file sits in my downloads folder and I open the most recent GearCity save in my Steam folder. As I'm not a backer currently, I have whatever the most recent Steam version is.

Have I made an error in installation and/or does the game need to run with the Secretary open for an extended period for it to function? Or has the tool fallen out of date?

Thank you for any answers anyone can provide!

I will have to take it for a test with the latest non-FBS version; I tested tonight that it remains compatible with FBS version 2.6.0.1.

It is, however, picky about only running on Java 8. That is something I might get around to improving this year, after having made some updates to my utility for a different game to get it running smoothly on Java 8 through 21 last year.

Most functionality should work without the program running as the game runs, with the Bonds tab being the most notable exception, as it tracks historical data that disappears from the Gear City save after the bond is paid off.

I'm glad you're enjoying it! And thanks for commenting - I wasn't sure if anyone else had made use of it in its first two years.

General note, it's been a while since I played Gear City, and thanks to additional hobbies, I'm probably never going to play it again as much as I did in 2020 through 2023. But the itch to play it has returned, and with it there may be some minor update to the Executive Secretary - along with compatibility with more recent version of Java, the tab that I showed a preview of on the Ides of March, 2024 is likely to be released.

That could be this month, could be in December, but the larger point is that I haven't altogether forgotten this project.
