I only did it for one map. The mod tools makes it easy to add more maps.

The ModFile.xml is for the game to read. If you put an absolute path, it won't work on any one else's machine except... well no one. Since I believe it uses the working directory then this path.
Again, mod tools should properly export this. I didn't edit anything but the .mesh name for the .car file by hand. (And even then I did that in the mod tools. Bug fix coming for that the update after next.)
