Multiple UI Popups Have Text Cut-off in Localized Versions
#1
In the Chinese (and possibly other localized) versions of the game, many popup windows and GUI panels have text cut-off at the bottom, making the full description unreadable. This affects multiple areas, including:
  • Sales point construction/modification cost estimation screen
  • Automatic commands / batch operation settings screen
…and potentially other similar popup UI elements.
Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Switch game language to Chinese.
  2. Open any popup window with long text descriptions (e.g., sales point construction cost estimation, automatic commands settings).
  3. Observe that the bottom part of the text is truncated.
Expected Result:
The popup window should display all text, either by expanding the box size or enabling scrolling.
Actual Result:
Text is truncated at the bottom, preventing the player from reading all the information.

Additional Info:
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Resolution:1920*1080
  • Game version:2.5.0.2
The issue may be due to the text box size not scaling for longer localized strings.

These seem to be tutorial windows and not the popups.

The tutorial windows have dynamic sized text areas to fit the tutorials in, however, our UI system doesn't have any sort of dynamic size system. So, it uses a very hackish solution of counting the number of characters in the text and the using that in a little formula to adjust the size. Chinese, by the nature of its written language has significantly fewer characters than other languages. That is why it breaks.

If you're a part of the translation team, one thing we can try is to pad the end of the translation text with blank space. Increasing the character count should increase the text area's height, thus making it visible.

Alright, I’ll go and try adding the extra spacing to see which parts need to be adjusted.

Worst comes to worse, I'll manually adjust the padding when using Asian languages. We'll have to wait until I resume working on GearCity in a couple months though.

No problem, I have added spaces to some of the existing problematic translations, and now it looks fine. I will upload the corrections to Geartrans
