I remember in Oldtimer, there was an option to run a racing team for your company, this feature was noticeably missing from Detroit.

Will there be a feature in GearCity and if so how will it be handled?

As of right now this feature isn't in the game. It's on my todo list for this version. Essentially you'll assign a budget for a team in different forms of racing. Depending on the style of racing you can also assign a car/engine. Your ratings (which you can't see) along with your budgets will effect the outcomes of your teams. Better results will improve your image ratings which could improve sales.
